What is ES-1 Certification?

ES-1 certification of each, individual edge metal product from FormTight ensures that our edge metal products are designed and produced to perform to technical standards set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Single Ply Roofing Institute (SPRI). While the majority of a typical roof installation is required to meet wind uplift standards through testing, engineering, and specific installation requirements, edge metals had been exempt. Before ES-1, contractors and suppliers were free to fabricate and install whatever they chose; many times cutting corners to reduce cost. By defining standards and requiring rigorous uniform testing through ES-1 certification, architects, contractors and building owners now can be sure that the edge metal systems they install will perform to the same wind uplift standards that has long been required for the rest of the roofing system. With ES-1 now an official part of the International Building Code (IBC), edge metals meeting the standard are now a regular requirement for both new construction and retrofit roof installations.
